FAQ About Tryouts For Baseball, 9-12 Year Olds
Who has to tryout?
- All 10 through 12 year olds who are not currently on a Majors Division team must attend tryouts. This process serves the purpose of allowing coaches to assess player’s skills for the Minor and Major Division drafts.
- Any 9 year olds who wish to “play up” in the Minors Division. The reason for this is to get a formal approval that the player is appropriate for that level of play and is not a safety risk to play in the Minors.
If my kid is definitely going to be in the Minors does s/he still have to tryout?
- Yes because it helps the league create the best scenario for each division.
- If a player misses tryouts s/he will still be placed on a team.
What happens at tryouts?
- Kids are asked to participate in a short series of drills that involve fielding ground balls, throwing to a base, catching fly balls, hitting, and running the bases. We do our best to keep it low pressure.
How long do we need to be at tryouts?
- The actual tryout for the kids lasts for approximately 10-15 minutes.
- We ask that you arrive early and kids can use the waiting time to warm-up.
- We expect to have an appointment system so families can pre-arrange their tryout time. If your player needs to be at tryouts, the league will be in contact with you about the details.
FAQ About How Players Get On Teams
How does the league determine who is on what team for Tee Ball?
- The top prioirty of the league is to create the optimal learning and playing experience in a safe enviornment for our kids. Therefore the top priorities for the league are to place kids on teams that are appropriate for their skill level and create parity and balance within the divison.
- The league does its best to honor requests of friends and coaches at the Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, and 8/9’ers levels of play. Minors level and up are done by a draft system.
- One issue in the past have been misunderstandings that entire teams “move up” together. From a league perspective, each jump to a new division is a “clean slate”. Therefore a t-ball team does not move up intact to coach pitch and a coach pitch team does not move up to be a minors team.

When will know what team we are on?
- Tee Ball, Coach Pitch and 8/9ers: The Week of February 22.
- Minors, Majors, Girls Softball: Saturday/Sunday February 27th/28th.
- Juniors: The Week of March 1st.
- Seniors: TBD
My kid will be bored playing Tee Ball again. Can s/he move up to Coach Pitch?
- Coach Pitch is intended for kids ages 7 and 8.
- Exceptions are made but must be approved by the league. This is done through the Player Agent who makes the safety/risk determination. If you wish to be placed in Coach Pitch and your child is league age 6 and has one year of Tee Ball experience – please mark your request on your online registration.
- All Coach Pitch kids are required to have played at least one year in Tee Ball – so if your child is league age 6 and this is their first year, please sign up for the Tee Ball program.
- Likewise, the league may ask any player to “play down” if there is a safety concern.
Who and what is the Player Agent?
- The player agent is Board approved position who is a resource for players and families to deal with issues, concerns, or questions.
We have a friend who cannot afford to have their child play – is there financial support available?
